LOS ANGELES, CA – New York Giants wide receiver, Odell Beckham, is expected to return for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles after suffering from a hamstring injury, last Sunday, in a win over the San Francisco 49ers.
After catching a 17-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, Beckham limped off the field holding his hamstring. He appeared to recover quickly from his injury and, halfway through the final drive of the game, returned to the field to draw the pass interference that set the Giants up for the game-winning touchdown.
Although Beckham put on an impressive performance in Sunday night’s game, all anyone could talk about this past week was the status of his injury and whether or not the star receiver was going to be in condition to play the following week.
Speculation has been thrown around for days but as of this morning – day of game six – prognosis looks optimistic. Swelling has subsided and Beckham seems to be performing at his usual competitive level. However, night game temperatures are expected to be in the low forties, which increases the likelihood for risk of injuring it further. According to ESPN.com’s Dan Graziano, “The Giants will monitor Beckham closely Monday during pregame warmups and won’t be taking any chances with their superstar playmaker”.
Given Beckham’s history of hamstring injuries, no one blames the Giants for airing it on the cautious side in regards to putting Beckham back in the game. Beckham was able to return, post injury, during the game against the Eagles and has rested for a few days since to give his body time to recover. “All we can do is hold out with the fact that he is a very competitive young man and if it’s at all possible, he’ll be ready to play” said Head Coach, Tom Coughlin. The team will need Beckham in order to put a more secure hold over their first place division ranking and continue their winning streak.
