LAS VEGAS – Oct. 8, 2013, week eight marks the first time this season that Las Vegas High Rollers’ quarterback Matt Ryan did not lead his team in scoring. Although he threw for 301 yards and a touchdown, Ryan’s four interceptions this past Sunday limited the quarterback to only 17.34 points in the High Rollers’ bout against the Albuquerque Arachnids.
The High Rollers were able to defeat the Arachnids, however, thanks to their wide receiver and kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson, who inched the High Rollers past the East Coast Egrets in week seven, lead the team in scoring in week eight with 31.4 points, due largely in part by an impressive 109 yard kick return for a touchdown. “You’re not usually supposed to return those balls that are [kicked] so far into the end zone, but I always feel like I can make something happen with the ball in my hands” said Patterson on his return. Kick returns and punt returns have been the source of the majority of his points this year. So far this season Patterson has 703 yards and two touchdowns on kick returns for an average of 39.1 yards a return.
Other contributors to the High Rollers victory were Dez Bryant and Terrence Williams who combined for 38.2 points on three touchdowns. Williams, a week six acquisition for the High Rollers scored 15.9 points in his second highest productive game of the season. Bryant continued to contribute as well with 22.3 points on two touchdowns despite only being targeted six times.
This win for the High Rollers maintained first place for Las Vegas in the SCOM Fantasy Classic, knocking off the Albuquerque Arachnids to second place. Although they are still tied with the Honolulu Pineapples with a record of 6-2, the High Rollers continue to lead the league with 1,070.9 points.
