High Rollers Fall to Toros in Heartbreaking Season Opener. Injuries Hinder Receiving Corps.

LAS VEGAS (September 9, 2013) – The Las Vegas High Rollers dropped their season opener yesterday at the hands of the division rival San Antonio Toros.  Quarterback Matt Ryan led the High Rollers with 32.36 points, but this was no match for the Toros’  quarterback Russell Wilson’s 33.5 points and running back Adrian Peterson’s 32.1 points.  Other notable scorers for Las Vegas were the Cardinals defense with 10 points, and tight end Brandon Myers, who got the start in a game time decision, with 12.6 points.

Injuries hindered the production of the High Rollers receiving corps who scored only 13.3 points in Sunday’s loss.  Roddy White (1.9 pts.) was listed as questionable entering the game after suffering an ankle injury in the preseason against the Ravens. Said White about his performance “I wasn’t my usual self, but you go out there and play as much as possible and try to help your team win. But it will be maybe a few more weeks before I can go out there and be myself. But no excuses. We just came up short today.”

High Rollers’ wide receiver Dez Bryant also suffered an injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, but returned after receiving attention from the High Roller’s medical staff.  He is listed as active for practice this week.

Despite their receiving corps’ lack of production, the High Rollers showed promise with their ground attack lead by running back LeSean McCoy.  McCoy rushed for 184 yards and one touchdown, racking up 25.9 points for the High Rollers– second among High Rollers players in week one.  Running back Matt Forte also contributed with 15.1 points on 91 total yards and one touchdown.

The Las Vegas High Rollers are a new team to the NFL for the 2013 season.  The High Rollers play in Sam Boyd Stadium in Whitney, Nevada which has a capacity of 40,000.  For ticket information please call 1-800-LVHR-TIX or visit our website at Sites.JMU.EDU/SportsPR/
