BIRMINGHAM, Al- Birmingham picked up, a rookie kicker, Greg Zuerlein this week. The Bulldogs defeated week five opponent the Portland Pirates with a final score of 103.36 points to a solid 51.54.
The Birmingham Bulldogs have leaped into third place this week with an overall winning schedule of 4-1. This week, Greg Zuerlein put up a seven-points towards the Bulldogs’ victory over the Pirates. Another 27.2 points were gained by starting wide receiver, Reggie Wayne. Another 23.6 points were gained by wide receiver, Percy Harvin. Finally, the defensive players posted a 15 points combined for Birmingham.
Greg Zuerlein was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1987. He attended both the University of Nebraska- Omaha and Missouri Western State University. Zuerlein kicked for three seasons while at the University of Nebraska- Omaha and set the school record for 60 points after touchdowns and converted 19 out of 26 field goal attempts. After transferring to Missouri Western State University in 2011 Greg Zuerlein set the NCAA Division II record of 21 consecutive field goals and nine of which were 50 yards or more. In 2011 he had the highest percentage of field goal completions of anyone in any division. Kolb’s record was over 95% field goal completions and completed 23 of 24 attempts.
Greg Zuerlein’s professional career as a sixth round draft pick in the 2012 NFL draft has been equally impressive as his collegiate one. He currently holds the record as being the only player in NFL history to make a 50- plus yarder and a 60-yard field goal in a single game. Zuerlin is also 13 for 13 for field goal attempts so far this season as well as five for five for 50 plus yard field goals.
The Birmingham Bulldogs are excited at the bright prospects Greg Zuerlein holds for the team.
