Did you know the ‘welcome your neighbors’ sign originated in Harrisonburg in 2015 (the second year of this project!). It is commonly seen around the town, and appears in the photos many times in the linguistic landscape project (under “fotos”) https://www.welcomeyourneighbors.org/about

Soy lingüísta y profesora de español en JMU (James Madison University), y con los alumnos de mi clase SPAN 404, El español en los Estados Unidos, buscamos descubrir la riqueza y la diversidad lingüística de nuestra comunidad. Aquí verás nuestra colección creciente de datos linguísticos que empezó en 2014 con el proyecto de paisaje linguístico (las fotos), y en 2017 con las entrevistas de hablantes locales del español. Welcome 
I am a linguist and professor of Spanish in JMU (James Madison University) and with the students in my SPAN 404, Spanish in the United States, class we are working to discover the linguistic wealth and diversity in our community. Here you will see the our growing linguistic data collection, which began in 2014 with the linguistic landscape (photo) project, and in 2017 with our interviews of local Spanish speakers. Learn something about our town, your visit and comments are always appreciated.
