Original Manuscript
George A. Newman’s A Miserable Revenge survives in a 480-page, numbered manuscript held in the Ruth and Lowell Toliver Collection of Newman Family Papers at James Madison University. The original manuscript received little to no editorial intervention after its initial composition, and several pages are missing or have incurred damage that made portions of the pages unreadable. To make the novel as reader-friendly as possible, our electronic and print editions have standardized Newman’s punctuation, spelling, capitalization, formatting, and paragraph breaks. Using the side-by-side page reader below, however, you can view Newman’s original handwritten pages alongside verbatim transcriptions of the text.
