Today we went to the University of Antananarivo and learned about the evolution of endemic animals in Madagascar. We thought it was most interesting to learn about the giant lemurs who once roamed as recent as 400 years ago. They could potentially grow to the size of a large male gorilla. For our reading we read about potential causes for extinction and while it seems likely human impact was the cause, evidence does suggest that the problems are not only caused by humans, but are the results of synergy.
