Madison Art Collection & Lisanby Museum

Overview:

Containing art and cultural objects from the Neolithic through the 20th Century, the administrative office for the Madison Art Collection is located in the Festival Conference & Student Center, Room 1010. The Madison Art Collection is sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and the College of Visual and Performing Arts.  Exhibitions from the permanent collection are displayed in the Lisanby Museum located in room 1108.

Mission:

The Madison Art Collection is an administrative unit of James Madison University and acquires art and cultural works in fulfillment of the university’s mission, specifically to foster an informed appreciation of the rich diversity of the human experience.  It preserves and exhibits those works to the public, serving as both steward and interpreter of cultural common wealth.

Located in the lower level of the Festival Conference and Student Center in room 1108, the James and Gladys Kemp Lisanby Museum presents dynamic, high-quality exhibitions featuring works of art from the Madison Art Collection. Serving both the university population as well as that of the surrounding community, the Lisanby is dedicated to celebrating diversity, scholarship, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Location

Located in the lower level of the Festival Conference and Student Center, the Lisanby Museum exhibits works drawn from the Madison Art Collection.

Hours

The Lisanby Museum is open during the semester:
Monday – Friday 10 am – 4 pm

Parking

Non-JMU Visitor Metered Parking is now available across the street from Festival in Lot C12 behind the bus stop.
