Mission Statement: The mission of the Taylor County History Center shall be to collect, preserve, and exhibit artifacts, structures, and landscapes of historical, cultural, and environmental nature of the last fifty years (1875-1925) of the West Texas Frontier. The artifact and archive collections shall be used for educational, scholarly, and genealogical research to provoke continued learning in our visitors.
Benefits: Academic credit available. Hands-on experience in day-to-day museum operations, collections management, site interpretation, and guest services. Leadership through on-site museum professionals.

Preferred Qualifications: Educational background in history, museum studies, collections management, archive management, preservation studies, or related field; experience working with the public. Must be currently seeking graduate degree in related field.

Job Duties: Research, catalogue, and preserve artifacts from West Texas Frontier. Enter all provenance and curatorial information into Past Perfect software. Use proper preservation techniques to protect and store 10,000+ artifacts. Use artifacts and information gained through research to assist curator and education team in the development of exhibits, educational programs, and workshops. Assist with collecting oral histories from community members in Taylor County. Attend Collections Committee meetings with Museum Board members and weigh in on important curatorial decisions. May also work the guest information desk and provide interpretive programming to guests and students. Duties will vary based on current site projects, student’s interest, and goals.

Housing and After-hours: Free, on-site housing available. Interns share a house with full kitchen, dining and living rooms. Washer and dryer included. Personal vehicle not required but recommended. On-site housing located across the street from museum. Some shopping located in Buffalo Gap accessible by foot or bicycle. Chain stores, malls, restaurants, etc. located in Abilene, 15 miles north of Buffalo Gap.
