The Civil War Trust provides students interested in history and conservation with outstanding opportunities to work on meaningful projects and gain perspective on dynamics of an efficient, top-rated nonprofit organization.

The Trust offers paid part-time internships in our Washington, D.C. office, up to 30 hours per week, in three typical terms: Spring (January–May), Summer (May–August) and Fall (August–December). Successful candidates may be able to arrange for varied tenures, depending on availability. While we strive to accommodate the schedules of qualified candidates, the selection process is competitive and organizational staffing needs are consideration criteria.

Internships are available in the following disciplines:

Development: Interns will learn the mechanics of the nonprofit industry, including event planning, prospect research and donor and member cultivation and management.

The Development Department is seeking a Development intern who has a passion for history and who wants to help with all elements of the fundraising process. Anyone who is interested in learning about fundraising and the inner workings of a national non-profit should apply. The intern will provide general assistance to all Development Department team members, including proof reading letters and proposals, assisting with identifying foundations for funding and writing grant applications, conducting prospect research, keeping records current in the member database, assisting with cultivation and stewardship activities, helping with mailings and various other duties and projects as assigned.

Applicants must be proficient in MSOffice and preferably have office administrative experience. We are looking for an individual who is detail-oriented, and who thrives in a fast-paced work environment. This is a PAID part-time position (up to 30 hours a week) with hours to be determined with the candidate. The intern will work from the Washington, DC office.
