Combination archival research and field survey internship.  Intern will research JMU institutional records to answer questions concerning the sale of the property from the Hooke Family to JMU in 1929; the uses of the property by JMU faculty and students; and the changes to the property since JMU ownership.  Considerable effort has already gone toward gathering contextual materials, but important questions remain.  As time allows, field survey will be undertaken with Dr. Carole Nash to determine the locations of non-extant structures, particularly a slave quarter. All students who participate in this project will be strongly encouraged to present their work at local and professional meetings, and efforts will be made to secure funding for registration and travel.  For more information contact Dr. Carole Nash, ISAT: nashcl@jmu.edu.
