Tinkercad Final : Fighter Jet
I really enjoyed using Tinlercad throughout the semester, because it allowed me to visually see and alter shapes in order to form what I wanted/intended to create. The fighter jet was difficult to make in regards to the curves of the piece. It was also difficult to print well, because the wings were extended above the ground without support. Overall, this project was probably my second favorite of the semester.
Fusion 360 Final Project : Spork
I originally had a difficult time understanding Fusion 360, however the more I used it the more I understood it. It was different from Tinkercad, because we had to think in 2D before moving to 3D. This was an especially hard transition, because Tinkercad was 3D objects. Overall, I am pleased with the outcome of the spork, however I had a love/hate relationship with Fusion 360.
OpenSCAD Final Project : Fidget Spinner
OpenSCAD was my least favorite program by FAR. I am a visual thinker, so trying to express something through code in order to make it visual was a big stretch for me. I have experience with HTML and CSS coding, however this was so much different. I enjoyed playing around with shapes and just plugging in random stuff and seeing what would happen. However when it came time to build actual objects, that was very challenging. Overall, I am happy I was able to create this fidget spinner, but I didn’t enjoy myself when using OpenSCAD.
Final Final Project : JMU Football Stadium
I am most proud of this project. I was able to use a program that I was comfortable with and try something that would be complete to say the least. I started with the field and went from there, building one thing at a time. The reason I enjoy Tinkercad so much, is because I can see what is happening in real time visually when I manipulate something. This allows me to add as much detail as I want without getting lost. Overall, this is the project I am most proud of.
My Progress:
I really enjoyed this class and had a fun time designing in most of the programs we used. Tinkercad was definitely my favorite program, because of it’s simple usability. Fusion 360 was my second favorite, because it allowed us to use curves and objects that Tinkercad simply couldn’t do. Finally, OpenSCAD was my least favorite program because of the lack of visual design in it.
I only used the Ultimaker when printing my objects, and I only had one problem throughout the whole semester (and it was my fault not the machines). They were easy to use and understand. My favorite aspect was seeing the work done on a computer turned into a physical object.
Overall, I am glad I took this class. I was able to learn things that I never thought I would know. From using difference 3D programs to printing the objects out, I had fun throughout the duration of the semester.
