Eric Crowell Portfolio

Hello

Im Eric. I am a junior International Affairs major with a global humanitarian development concentration. I am interested in advancing my 3D designing and printing abilities. I have always been interested in manufacturing and craftsmanship. I am hoping this class will possibly help me down the road as I would like to learn 3D modeling to help me build my own house.

Grab Bag Noun: Helicopter

My noun was helicopter. I used semi circles for the body and a cone for the tail. I was a bit worried about the structural integrity of the rotors given that they do not have much contact with the body.

I had originally forgot to turn on structural support as you can see on the left. The second time I made the model much smaller and added support. After trimming off the support, I am very satisfied with the final result.

20 Objects

  1. Table, lamp, game system- wanted to play around with the premade objects
  2. Pyramids- simply triangles sized to represent the pyramids of Giza
  3. TV
  4. Refrigerator
  5. House
  6. Hearts
  7. Snowman
  8. Smiley face
  9. Skyscraper- tried to represent the Sears Tower
  10. Premade character with sunglasses and mustache
  11. Premade ‘Coral’ bunched together- I wanted to try and make a more abstract shape
  12. Green box- box is made from premade ‘mazes’
  13. Flashlight
  14. Saturn- I made the ring more of an oval so that if it were to be printed, it would have points of contact with the sphere
  15. Mountain terrain
  16. Pencil
  17. Windmill-tried to represent a more traditional dutch windmill
  18. Audi Emblem
  19. Couch

Print from the 20 Objects

Moving Parts

I made a wind turbine for my moving parts project

Tinkercad Final Project

I’m making a 3D model of lower Manhattan using google maps.

It took a significant amount of time to go through each building and make it but, the most challenging aspect of the project was trying to get the proportions and scaling accurate. I ended up printing the model very small for the sake of time. Being that it was so small, the antenna on the One World Trade Center did not print. Also, a couple of my docks came off when I separated model from the adhesion because they were so thin.

First print of the model

Fusion 360 Ring

I found this assignment very difficult. It’s hard getting used to the new program and the specific processes.
