In March 2019, there was a deliberative forum held in Madison Union that focused on students coming together to talk about their opinions on guns. With the student-made issue guide, proctors lead participants through the questions, compromises and grayness of the topic.

Though there weren’t as many participants as we had hoped, thoughtful discussions filled the room as all participants were fully engaged in the discussion. At some points, students would respectfully disagree with another’s viewpoint, which was incredible to watch because instead of becoming defensive students would take a step back and listen to the other’s viewpoints. Often times after this interaction students would adjust their viewpoints.
