Out of the Shadows

Hacking to find a solution to create transparency in the cycle of forced labor and empower vulnerable individuals with the tools to find the best work for themselves.

Our team, Out of the Shadows, works with the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (J/TIP) to find a solution on how to create transparency in the cycle of forced labor. Forced labor encompasses a range of activities including recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person to work under false pretenses of fair pay, livable conditions, and propoer documentation. Our team has identified recruitment as the most ‘hackable’ aspect of the cycle to focus on. We have worked with J/TIP to understand the intrececies of the cycle at a deep level and work with experts in the field of human trafficking and forced labor in order to identify gaps we are capable filling. Included on our team, we have a diverse set of expertise, catered specifically towards solving issues of international affairs, humanitarian crises, and economic development issues.
