Meet the Team

Our names are Jacob, Paige, Chris, Jack, and Grace. We are an interdisciplinary group specializing in politics, international affairs, engineering, statistics, and intelligence analysis. Our various experiences and skills make us a dynamic and forward-thinking team for which no goal is too ambitious. Check out our individual backgrounds below!

Jacob Myers

Jacob Myers

Statistics, Senior

Jacob is a senior Statistics major at James Madison University. As a person who enjoys solving problems, Jacob took H4D in order to try his luck at providing solutions to real world challenges! He believes that teamwork is crucial in life, and is intrigued to see the challenge from both his and his teammates’ perspectives. Jacob is excited to dive into the problem at hand and see what they can come up with!

Paige Wilson

Paige Wilson

Political Science, Senior

Paige is a senior Political Science major from Edinburg, Virginia. She has participated in JMU activities including moot court, study abroad, research, and several philanthropic student organizations. She enjoys working with data, especially for political and public policy research. She spends her free time cooking, reading, and going on adventures with her dog, Moose. After graduation, she will begin a research analyst role at a policy institute in Washington, D.C.

Christopher Handwerk

International Affairs, Senior

Chris is a senior International Affairs major from Cape Charles, VA.  His foremost interest in the field is European politics, specifically the foreign policy strategies of the European Union.  Chris has interned in Congress as a participant in the Washington Semester and has studied abroad to learn more about post-conflict societies and southeastern European politics.  Chris looks forward to getting out of the classroom and tacking real-world problems in Hacking for Defense, and hopes to use the skills he learns in his future. Chris will be departing for Ukraine in August to begin his service in the Peace Corps.

Jack Williams

Engineering, Junior

Jack is a junior Engineering major from Powhatan, Virginia. He has always had an interest in the field of government and defense, and took H4D to not only learn more about the inner workings of government, but also to gain experience on new complex challenges that have real meaning. Jack is excited to see how the Global Alignment challenge evolves over the course of the semester, and he plans to go to law school after graduating from James Madison University in hopes of becoming a patent lawyer.

Grace Bailey

Intelligence Analysis and Independent Scholars, Sophmore

Grace is a sophomore Intelligence Analysis and Independent Scholars double major pursuing minors in Honors Interdisciplinary Studies, Computer Science, and Telecommunications at James Madison University. She enjoys finding practical solutions for challenging problems and enjoys the interdisciplinary nature of the Hacking for Defense program. In her free time she plays rugby, volunteers, enjoys creative writing, and spends time outside either hiking or walking her dog; Baylie.
