Integrative Course Timeline

In Summer 2015, General Education awarded a summer grant to a team to design an integrative, 300-Level course for the program. This team (Tim Ball/PI, Gretchen Hazard, Skip Hyser, Dennis Beck, Liz Thompson, Ron Cereola, Scott Paulson & Jeanne Horst) created course learning outcomes. These outcomes are:

• Demonstrate advanced information literacy skills
• Communicate using both written and performance formats
• Engage with complex questions to achieve identified goals
• Apply multiple disciplinary perspectives to a contemporary problem

Additionally, the grant team created a 300-Level Course template and recommended that the courses use the JMU Writing Rubric, the JMU Academic Presentation Rubric, and the newly created JMU General Education Integrative Thinking Rubric to review student work. Faculty currently running pilots are using these instruments to help the General Education Council see how well the students are meeting these competencies.
