Fried steak was something new I tried this past week, though I was hesitant to order this it was delicious and probably the best meal I've had yet aside from pasta. Another thing I tried that took me out of my comfort zone was the crocche that I had in Naples, this is basically just fried mashed potatoes. This was super delicious and had a perfect crisp on the outside and a creamy flavorful filling on the inside. My favorite foods so far would be the fried steak, the crocche, and the gelato I got in Naples. I got the hazelnut and the cookies & cream flavors from the recommend gelato place and it was fantastic! In our gastronomy class this past week we many different delicious dishes but my favorites to make again would have to be the eggplant parmigiana, the fried rice balls, and of course the gelato that Tassie made for us!

In Siena I ordered a ceasar salad for lunch with a side of fries and a coke. I thought the ceasar salad was interesting because it definitely wasn't the best one I've had, the dressing was a yellow color as opposed to a traditional white ceasar dressing color. There was also bacon in the ceasar salad which is different from what I'm used to. The fries were delicious, they were crispy and more of a curved shape which I loved. I also came to the realization that the coca cola is about $5 everywhere here which would be the same amount of a cocktail if ordered in the U.S. Something I really miss from the U.S. is Cava. Cava is a Mediterranean "build your own" type of restaurant. When I go here I usually order a grain bowl which contains rice, a variety of hummus, falafel, corn, cucumber, avocado, and pita. I love Cava because it's my go to "healthy" meal which is also delicious. I haven't found a meal here yet that's both healthy and good besides a salad.

During my first week in Florence I consumed panini's, pasta, pizza, gelato, and an occasional salad. I tried several different pasta dishes including carbonara, penne vodka, and spaghetti. What surprised me the most about the spaghetti dish that I had was that there was no sauce, it was just diced tomatoes on top of spaghetti pasta. I'm curious to know if this is the typical "spaghetti" dish everywhere in Italy or if it's just like that at the restaurant I went to. So far I've only tried GustaPizza and the pizza from our first group dinner. I liked the crust from GustaPizza better than the pizza from the first night because it seemed thicker and fresher but overall I really enjoy the pizza here. At GustaPizza I ordered a margarita pizza, the cheese and the bread tasted so fresh and I noticed the crust was more "bready" rather than crispy which I didn't mind. I would like to go back and try one of the pizzas with the burrata on top or maybe even try pizza from a different restaurant and see how they compare.
