This was my lunch in Siena. It was pici pasta with a pork sauce. This dish was probably one of my favorites I have had so far in Italy. It wasn’t a traditional dish for Siena but it was made in a family owned restaurant right off the main square.
Gelato seemed to be the talk of the town in San Gimignano. I got a berry and orange flavored gelato.
This is a pumpkin crostini with sun-dried tomato and fennel that we paired with our wine at a wine bar.
On our day excursion to Pisa we made a pit stop for breakfast at Filter Coffee. The breakfast options were endless and everything seemed really fresh in this picture is a cappuccino and a croissant with brie, pears, and chopped walnuts.
I also got to enjoy my first bagel sandwich here. Being a northern girl I have to say that the bagel is nowhere near close to my favorite but being able to have a taste of home while here was refreshing.
While also in Pisa we stopped at a trattoria for lunch. We were able to eat on their back patio which was really nice. I got a pici pasta with oil, bread crumbs, burrata cheese, and chili peppers.
I wish I got the opportunity to try more customary cuisine from the places we went but unfortunately some things were out of season like the pasta with boar sauce that I was dying to try. This upcoming week in Naples I will definitely try to eat more customary foods from that area. Missing foods from home has been prominent in my mind this week. All week I have been craving a good burger and a breakfast sandwich. Lucky for me I was able to eat both but it didn’t satisfy my cravings.
