The map spotlights European commissioners’ “unique visits.” A unique visit is a visit that either (a) begins >4 days after the commissioner’s last visit to the same country or (b) takes place after the commissioner has carried out official activities in a country outside of the focal country. Activities that commissioners carry out in Brussels, Strasbourg, and Luxembourg City are excluded from the map.

Circle sizes represent the number of unique visits to a country. Colors denote world region. Users can access additional information about a commissioner’s travel countries by hovering over circles.
