The Sea Rescue Group met as a group for the first time on Friday to discuss the scope of our project. The group started with researching some of the current drones used for sea rescue, and discussed some of the limitations of our project.
Questions:
What is our budget for this project?
Are we building a new quad copter from scratch, or are we modifying a previously made one?
Should we consider using a gas powered drone over an electric battery powered drone?
What kind of flotation device are we looking into dropping and will we be using a tether?
What kind of winds are we expected to be operating the drone in?
Is flight in a storm at sea viable?
Does the Carova Fire Department have a licensed pilot able to fly a drone beyond just line of sight?
The group also made some progress troubleshooting a 3-D printer in Dr. Albert’s lab that could be used for future modelling and simulation for this and other projects.
