Antisemitism and the Judeo-Bolshevik Myth: The History and Legacy of a Stereotype

In recent years, we have witnessed a resurgence of antisemitism in the United States and across the globe.  Paul Hanebrink, a history professor at Rutgers University and the author of A Specter Haunting Europe: The Myth of Judeo-Bolshevism, (Harvard University Press 2018) will discuss the history and legacy of antisemitism over the last century, focusing in particular on the Judeo-Bolshevik myth that linked Judaism with socialism and was used to justify disenfranchisement, persecution, and genocide.  Far from perishing with the Holocaust, antisemitism has continued to the present day.  Hanebrink will discuss its historical causes and the reasons for its recent resurgence.  An open discussion with audience members will follow the presentation.
