The Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) has been the law of the land for over 7 years, its successes and failures paraded across the media daily. The ACA has expanded health coverage to 20 million Americans, many of them low-income and sick, but it has also increased premiums for almost 8 million individuals and families who are not eligible for federal subsidies to help them purchase insurance. After Congress’ recent and unsuccessful attempts to overturn the law, President Trump now hopes to use executive action to return the insurance industry to the days of assessing premiums based on health status. Please join University of Virginia health policy experts Carolyn Long Engelhard, MPA and Dr. Mohan Nadkarni for a presentation about the future of health policy in the U.S. and how recent changes under the Trump Administration will affect patients and health care professionals. An open discussion with audience members will follow their presentations.
