Dr. E. Franklin Dukes, a member of the Charlottesville Commission that voted on the future of the city’s Confederate monuments, and Dr. David Ehrenpreis, head of JMU’s Institute of Visual Studies, will discuss debates surrounding the decision to remove Charlottesville’s Confederate monuments, how monuments both commemorate our past and symbolize our present, and the ways that our monuments may sustain or counter narratives of white supremacy. An open discussion with audience members will follow their presentations.
Tuesday, September 26, 5-6:30pm | Wilson Auditorium, JMU
