Welcome to the JMU Summer Institute’s workshop series on Grief, Loss, and Trauma. Each workshop is accessible with the password found in your registration confirmation email. Below you will find a brief welcome video from Debbie Sturm, PhD.

Debbie Sturm, PhD.

Debbie Sturm received her MA in Community Counseling (2004) and PhD in Counseling & Supervision from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2008). She has been a Counselor Educator for 13 years and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for 15 years. Her clinical background focused on clients who have experienced trauma and community violence. Her research interests include trauma, grief and loss, advocacy practices, climate crisis, nature connection and mental health, environmental justice, and counselor mental health and burnout prevention.

Your enrollment confirmation email contains passwords for each of the workshops you are enrolled in as a part of the workshop series. You will be prompted to enter this password when you click on the link for each workshop shown in the bar at the top of the page.

Once you enter the workshop you will find a series of modules. Each module will lead you through the workshop content in a self-paced, asynchronous format. At the end of the workshop you will be asked to take a quiz on the content and complete a workshop evaluation. Both the quiz and the evaluation must be completed to receive NBCC credits for this course.
