Tuesday July 20th, 2010: Twelve teachers (11 high school and 1 elementary school) from across Virginia joined us for a Demonstration Workshop. The workshop, in JMU’s Chemistry and Physics Building, was presented by Casey Rogers and Dr. Kevin Caran. They were also joined by Dr. Kevin Davies (JMU Chem) and two sign-language interpreters. The teachers learned the demos through hands-on experience as the presenters did the demos at the front of the classroom. The teachers shared their ideas and experiences about the demos with each other and the presenters. Twelve demos were presented and discussed by Casey and KC. One of the attendees presented and additional demo dealing with the chemistry of a penny. When the demos were done, JMU Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty joined the workshop attendees in the lobby for liquid nitrogen ice cream. A few attendees stayed for a tour of the chemistry department before leaving.
