One of the major problems in the healthcare industry is a lack of effective communication between interprofessionals. When poor communication occurs from physician to physician, it can significantly hinder the medical process by not only raising the potential for a major accident, but also for death. We are developing a training tool using virtual reality to improve patient outcomes in a high stakes environment. “OnCall” is designed to construct a multi-user and inter-professional network by allowing users to join, invite, and collaborate with others within a single session. Students using OnCall will develop the skills necessary for transitioning into the healthcare field.

The Impact

“OnCall’s” goal is to assist in the prevention of accidents that occur within the healthcare field caused by poor communication between inter-professionals. Users will obtain a more expansive skillset towards communication with other users in other locations, from local to worldwide. As users move throughout the program, their inter-professional skills will be assessed through scenarios of varying assignments and difficulty.
