Language

Sample Training

In the field of speech-language pathology, language sample analysis (LSA) is a diagnostic tool that comprehensively assesses a child’s language abilities.

Our project is based on an immersive technology that will improve the frequency of use, training, and quality of LSA. The project is based on the Oculus Rift, utilising the platforms VR headset and hand controllers. It takes users through an LSA as they facilitate and interact with a virtual child.

The Research & Impact

To create an immersive experience for speech-language pathologists, our research entailed interviewing people within the field. Through interviews we not only obtained a deeper understanding of LSA, but also heard personal opinions and experiences. This helped us when considering what will make the LSA within the VR feel authentic. By making our project as authentic as possible, we hope to better and further increase the utilization of LSA within SLP clinical practice.
